I'm typically hesitant when it comes to my kids and online ANYTHING but they're growing up in a very technological age. So, I was excited to be able to review a one-year subscription to Kids Email Safe Email for Kids. Now my kiddos can communicate online safely and momma doesn't have to worry.
Kid's Email has a lot of great features that offer the familiarity of typical email carriers while, at the same time, offering necessary safety controls. My kids are able to communicate with any authorized contact with ease and not have to worry about spam or messages from strangers.
One thing that makes Kids Email so appealing is the control that we, as parents, have over the operation and use. As you can see, the list is pretty extensive giving you control over every aspect of the use of the email. You can control who they can send to and receive from, whether someone can attach pictures or links, and what your child has the power to change. You can even have copies all incoming and outgoing emails sent to you.
Some other features of Kids Email are the ability to block senders, setting time restrictions on when they can log in, and setting up custom mailbox folders. The organizer in me loves this latter feature as I use it in my own email. My girls now use it as well! =)
I currently have accounts set up for my 2 eldest girls. My 8-year-old has by far gotten the most use out of hers. She loves to send emails to her grandparents and she'll even email my husband and I. Her face always lights up when I tell her she has an email!
The inbox itself looks like your typical email inbox. It has the name of the sender, the email subject, and a short preview of the body. You can add pictures to each contact or use one of their avatars.
Composing an email is simple. Just click on the write email tab. They can a pick a contact from the add contact section. This section will only have contacts that have been approved by you. You have to manually enter or approve each contact in order for them to be added. Below you can see what the add contacts section looks like when pulled up. They can add or take a photo to attach to the email (if you set it up to allow pictures in emails of course!)
By far, my girls' favorite feature is the drawing feature. I must say, it's a neat option and a genius feature to have for Kids Email. They can actually draw a picture and it'll attach to the body of the email!
This is what it looks like pulled up in the Kids Email App. They have several colors to choose from and can even change the pencil size. Once they're finished. They just hit the attach button and they can finish their email from there.
This is what the email looks like on the receiving end. Just like any other typical email. But I love the disclaimer at the end. It lets the receiver know that the email is coming from a monitored email account. It also notifies them that all responses will have to go through parental setting to be sure it's appropriate. Love that!
