One thing that having a family has taught me is the importance of being organized. I have always considered myself a pretty organized person but having a family of 6 requires a special kind of organization. You know, the kind that plans for everything yet is flexible enough to drop everything at a moments notice and still accomplish everything on the days agenda. yeah, that kind of organized. It has definitely been adjustment. I have always been the type of person that thrives on routine and has a somewhat difficult time adjusting when things don't go as planned. One thing they never tell you about having kids is that things rarely ever go as planned. So, here I am, 4 kids in and to this day, still adjusting. But I am making progress every day...Yay me!
I recently implemented the use of a planner. Previously, I did all of my planning from my phone; However, there is something about having it physically in front of me and writing things down that technology just doesn't do for me. There was a lot of hype about the Erin Condren Planner and I had thought about going with that one until I saw the price...enough said. I had to look for a more budget friendly option that offered a similar layout. That is when I found The Happy Planner.
I chose this cover because it says focus to me and that is what I was looking for. However, there are a ton of cover options that can be found online and on Etsy.
I have really been enjoying the layout of this planner. It is pretty identical to the Erin Condren Planner and only a fraction of the price! There are so many "extras" available for these planners from really useful printouts to totally awesome accessories. I have been using mine for about 4 months and haven't even begun to delve into all the cool extras. Even without them, it has been an amazing organizational tool.
Another thing I like about using a physical planner is the creative outlet it provides. Gone are the days of boring planner pages with a barrage of endless notes and appointments that all seem to meld into one large ink blot. For someone who has a huge thing for the creative arts and unfortunately little time to pursue them, this has been a breath of fresh creative air. I like being able to suit my planner to my liking and give it personality. Flipping through my planner you will see lots of pretty colors and stickers (all strategically placed of course) and each week is themed to some event happening that week. Today I am planning for a big birthday coming up next week. Our baby girl will be turning 1 on Friday! How time flies! So, for this week I found a cute printable layout on Pinterest. You can find this free printable by clicking on the picture below!
Usually the first thing I do when planning a spread for the week is plan the placement of all my stickers before sticking them on. In my case, I am gluing them because I don't have a fancy sticker maker thing. I do it the old fashioned way...cut and paste =)
Once all of my stickers are configured the way that I want them, I glue them down. For this spread, I also found printable birthday themed washi tape and stickers. This printable is also free and can be found by clicking on the picture below!
Here I just added a few stickers I had purchased from the Dollar Tree.
After a few embellishments and additions here is the final product! An adorable birthday spread in honor of our birthday girl!
I hope you enjoyed planning with me today!
Much love and many blessing!
