I like to buy a new Bible every couple years in an effort to get more out of my scripture reading. I was recently in the market for a new study Bible. So, I was super excited to get the opportunity to review the new CSB Study Bible for Women.
This Bible has all the fun extras you'd expect from a study Bible and then some! Because it's geared towards women, there's a lot of emphasis on biblical womanhood...which I love! Before I get into the detail, let's look at the specs listed on the site:
This particular Bible is great for both new and seasoned christian woman. While it does go deeper into scripture, it also focuses on the fundamentals. It even prequels with a section on "How to Study the Bible" and gives helpful resources to amplify your study of scripture.
Each book of the Bible has an introduction that covers the who, what, when, where, how, and why's of that particular book. It goes over who wrote it and who it was written for, what it's about, when it was written, where is was written, how to read that book, and why women should read it. I really like this feature because it gives a brief but informative look into the history and application of the book. It helps to give a clearer picture of what was going on during that time and how it applies today.
Another feature of this Bible is the "Word Study" sections you find throughout. It gives a deeper look into the meaning of words as translated in Hebrew and in Greek. This is actually a really important addition when it comes to studying scripture. You get a better understanding of what exacly is being said because, while translators do their best to stay true to the original meaning, things do, as they say, get lost in translation.
In addition to the word study, I've been enjoying the Biblical womanhood sections. It talks about biblical concepts, as well as, women in the Bible and how we as women can learn and take away from their actions and choices and apply it to our lives today.
Some of the topics discussed are submission, fasting, feminism, motherhood, leadership, and so much more! Obviously, it touches on a lot of touchy subjects but I haven't come across anything even remotely demeaning to women. Neither does it elevate women as superior to men.
In addition to the Biblical Womanhood, this Bible also has character profiles throughout. It gives a very brief overview of select women in the Bible. You learn a little bit about their background, their story (or place in the bible), and life lessons that can be learned from them.
Even though these sections are very small, they are one of my favorite features of this Bible. It helps me to feel more connected to the characters and to understand them on a deeper level.
Perhaps my most favorite feature is the "Written on My Heart" sections at the end of each book. Again, these sections are very small but they pack a great punch...so to speak. It basically sums up the takeaway from that particular book and packs it into an easily consumed passage. I find them to be edifying as they give me something to meditate on in relation to the scriptures I just read.
