A couple Sundays ago, I was sitting in on one of my father-in-law's sermons. He was talking about the formative years of teaching our children to pray and about how "boxed" prayers (i.e. "Now I lay me down to sleep..") lay out the foundation and structure of what prayer should look like. The Lord's Prayer is a great example of this and is, in fact, how we're encouraged to pray. But eventually our prayers develop into something deeper and more personal the more we begin to understand the importance and power of prayer.
